Reconnoiter of the Metallic Destruction in Mineral Oils

Abstract

Corrosion is a compelling factor regarding the occurrence of the metallic destruction that related several industrial applications of metals foremost the petroleum refining industry. The investigation of the corrosion rates of selected seven different types of metals against the selected two different types of petroleum oils and the strength of corrosive compounds that presence in both petroleum oils were the conspicuous ambitions of the current research. The dominant corrosive compounds of both petroleum oils, chemical compositions of selected metals, corrosion rates of prepared metal coupons in equal size from seven different types of metals after immersion in petroleum oils for fixed time periods, microscopic analysis of corroded metal surfaces, decayed metal concentration into the petroleum oil and the variations of the initial hardness of metal coupons were tested and determined according to the methodology. The least corrosion rates from stainless steels, different corrosive strength from both petroleum oils and formation of various corrosion compounds on the surfaces of metal coupons were obtained as elementary results. Eventually throughout the investigations of the existing research the nature of metallic corrosions in mineral oils are defined sufficiently.
