Abstract

This study was carried out to assess the quality of paracetamol brands sold in metropolitan katsina. The tablet samples were analyzed quantitatively using Uv-visible spectrophotometry. Qualitative analysis was carried out on tablet brands. The results showed an average paracetamol (content in mg) in tablet brands of 463.108mg. The paracetamol tablet brands were compared against United States pharmacopoeia (108-132mg/5ml for syrup brands and 450-550mg for tablet brands) and British pharmacopoeia (114-120mg/5ml for syrup brand and 450-500mg for tablet). It was found that all the tablet samples were within the set limit recommended by both pharmacopoeias. Hence, it could be inferred that all the paracetamol tablets are safe. This study suggests a more detailed research on other syrup brands.
